Case Study: My Experience With Wood

Timber Protection

The Biological research of wood and it’s renewable material is what is referred to as wood science. The processes and the tools used to utilize the material is what is known as wood technology. Other products are put alongside wood for easy testing and study. Materials properties, ease of it being worked on and its value are among the few properties which are compared against those of wood and other materials. The many Merits of timber and these technologies improve wood to be superior over other products. The wide range of products where wood can be used is just one of the many advantages that give wood an upper hand over other products. Wood is renewable, and this makes it more precious. The other merit is that a part of the harvested material is at the same time used as energy to produce the product.

The good appearance of your timber made structure cannot be guaranteed if protection of the timber is not done. Wooden structures have to be kept away from water and pests that eat through the wood. The rotting and decay of the timber products are caused by the moisture and the insects. Alkaline copper Quaternary or the ACQ has turned out to be a very effective way wood preservation. As the name implies the preservative is made of copper products. There are a few disadvantages of this method as a mode of wood preservation. It is a highly corrosive chemical that affects most metals that are used together with the wooden products. The species of the wood and the application of the wood will determine how many chemicals will be used on the wood. The level of chemical concentration will be determined by where the piece of wood is going to be put to use.

Many methods are being invented to protect the wood, and one of them is the copper metal method. This method is being accepted fast because is friendly to wooden fasteners. An alternative name to be given to this method is the micronized copper wood preservative method. A high-pressure liquid that has the copper metal mixed in it is driven into the wood. The difference between this method and the other copper-based methods is that the copper is used as a metal rather than a dissolved material. This process is highly effective and the wood properties and heightened. The timber treated in this way is used in both outdoor and indoor frames that last very long.

Termites cannot eat through timber treated through this method. It is not corrosive to metals used in together with the product. Extensive research over a period of 10 years has proven the effectiveness of this science as one of the best wood preservation methods.
